Kronospan was founded in 1897 as a sawmill in Lungotz, Austria. Since then, the business has grown to 39 sites in 20 countries, employing over 14,000 people, making us one of the world’s leading manufacturers of wood-based panels.
Our products are trusted across markets in over 120 countries in sectors ranging from furniture manufacturing, construction through to trade & DIY retail. Our rich history and market success has grown from our commitment to innovation, technological development, and driving continuous improvements in the quality and sustainability of our products.
Our innovation is more than just the boards we make; it’s also the decors and designs of our melamine-faced boards under our Kronodesign brand. In the UK, we have been manufacturing in Chirk, North Wales, for over 50 years. Our Chirk site produces particle board, medium density fibreboard (MDF), melamine-faced boards, and laminate flooring – we are the UK's most comprehensive manufacturer of wood-based panels and proud to be the UK's only domestic manufacturer of laminate flooring.
Our products manufactured in the UK are made using timber sourced in the UK, keeping the carbon footprint of our products as low as possible. We have also pioneered the use of recycled timber in our particleboard, helping us achieve industry-leading levels of recycled content in our board, making us the sustainable choice for environmentally conscious consumers.
